Julián Gutiérrez (Ph.D., M.Th., M.A.)
Besides having degrees in Engineering and Business Management, Dr. Gutiérrez successfully completed an MA in Theology at Talbot School of Theology (Biola University), a MTh in Systematic Theology (University of Aberdeen), and a PhD in Divinity (University of St Andrews). He specializes in the areas of systematic and historical theology: his doctoral dissertation was on the doctrine of divine existence and the attributes of God in the thought of seventeenth-century theologian Stephen Charnock.
Since his conversion, Dr. Gutiérrez has been actively involved in serving the local church in diverse roles. He has assisted the church in administrative matters, served as youth leader, directed Sunday School Classes for adults, and college students, provided and coordinated theological education for the church, functioned as a doctrinal advisor to the church's leadership and congregants in the role of theologian-in residence, and contributed with preaching on the Lord's Day as needed. He and his family are members of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Orange (PCA), where they have served and worshiped since 2022.
Dr. Gutiérrez's teaching and professional experience is broad in range and includes a variety of audiences in multicultural settings. He has lectured in English and Spanish on historic and systematic theology, apologetics, introduction to contemporary theology, and New Testament studies both to undergrad and graduate students. He has presented papers at academic conferences and events in different countries, including Colombia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and most recently India.
Dr. Gutiérrez specializes in Theology Proper, particularly in the themes of divine existence and the attributes of God, as understood in the period known as Reformed Orthodoxy. He is interested in particular theological ideas from the past to engage in a constructive dialogue with more contemporary doctrinal accounts. Additionally, Dr. Gutiérrez's academic interests also include classical theism, Trinitarian theology, apologetics, and metaphysics used in Christian theology. Although he is open to mentoring students in various aspects of systematic and historical theology, he relishes delving into themes within the realm of the doctrine of God.
